“IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERY DIFFICULTY LIES OPPORTUNITY”
My career in the helping field began many years ago when I accepted a position as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, which later led me onto the path of becoming a licensed Primary Care Paramedic (formerly EMT). My eyes were quickly opened to the reality that it doesn't matter where we come from; we have all experienced some sort of trauma.
After suffering from a back injury while out on an emergency call, my professional life came to a halt. I was no longer in a position where I was able to carry out the physical demands of the job. I went on to spend six years in the film industry, but always knew there was something lacking. I missed the element of being of service to others. This drove me to make a career change and led me back into the healthcare field.
Making the decision to seek counselling throughout my own journey was paramount in navigating through some seemingly tedious and uncomfortable emotions. I know firsthand that change isn't easy. Therefore, I have deep admiration and respect for individuals who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and ask for help.
